Chamaecyparis, or false cypresses, are evergreen conifers with soft scale-like leaves and decorative, often fan-shaped sprays of foliage. Here we sell false cypresses in assorted varieties – the variety, colour and shape depend on current stock. Buy a false cypress in Estonia from the ALLIKASILM nursery.
The range includes plants with green, golden-yellow and bluish foliage, dwarf forms for rock gardens, rounded shrubs and slender columnar trees. All of them stay green all year and bring colour to the garden in winter too.
False cypresses grow slowly to moderately and suit specimen planting, groups, low hedges and containers. In Estonia they do best in a spot sheltered from wind and in moist soil.

Agronomo patarimai
Planting. Plant in spring or early autumn in a sheltered spot. Add acid ericaceous or conifer compost to the hole, keep the root collar level with the soil and mulch with pine bark or needles.
Watering and feeding. False cypresses dislike drying out: water regularly in dry spells in the first year and give a deep watering before the ground freezes. Feed in spring with conifer fertiliser and stop nitrogen from August.
Care. Pruning is rarely needed; lightly trim the young growth in early summer if required, but never cut back into old wood. Remove any browned twigs in spring.
Gardener's tip. Late-winter sun on frozen ground can scorch the foliage – shade young plants from February to April with fleece or spruce branches for their first winters.
