Strawberry spinach (Chenopodium foliosum), also called leafy goosefoot or strawberry blite, is an unusual annual vegetable whose young leaves and bright red raspberry-like "berries" are both edible. Buy strawberry spinach plants in a 9 cm pot in Estonia from the ALLIKASILM nursery.
It grows up to 60 cm tall and about 30 cm wide. Inconspicuous flowers appear in the leaf axils in June – July, and from August to October the stems are lined with juicy red fruit clusters with a flavour reminiscent of beetroot.
Eat the young leaves raw in salads or cook them like spinach, and add the "berries" to salads and desserts; enjoy them in moderation, as they contain saponins and oxalic acid. An easy-going plant that tolerates light frosts and decorates the kitchen garden and containers.

Agronoma ieteikumi
Planting. Plant out in May in a sunny spot, 25–30 cm apart. Add mature compost before planting, as the plant needs fertile soil.
Watering and feeding. Water regularly and do not let the soil dry out, so the leaves stay tender. In summer you can feed once with an organic vegetable fertiliser.
Care. Pick young leaves as the plant grows and harvest the ripe red fruit from August. It self-seeds easily: if you do not want seedlings, pick the fruit before it drops.
Gardener's tip. Grow strawberry spinach in a container by the terrace: the hanging red "berries" look decorative and are handy to pick straight for the table.
