Advice from our agronomist
Planting. Plant quince in spring in a sunny sheltered spot with deep fertile soil. Space trees 4–5 m apart and keep the graft union above soil level.
Care. In the first years build an open crown and remove crowding branches. Mulch around the trunk to reduce weeds and drying out.
Watering and feeding. Water young trees deeply in dry weather; mature trees need less. Feed in spring with organic or balanced fertiliser.
Winter and pruning. Protect the trunk and root collar with mulch and fleece during the first winters. Cut out dead and frost-damaged branches in February–March; hard pruning is not needed.
