About this product
Summersweet Clethra alnifolia is a deciduous shrub with fragrant white flower spikes that open in late summer, when many other shrubs have finished, and yellow autumn leaves. A good buy for late, scented flowering.
It prefers part shade and moist, acidic, humus-rich soil; it tolerates wet sites but not lime. Good by water, beside rhododendrons and in shrub groups. Remove old and frost-damaged stems in spring.

Advice from our agronomist
Planting Plant in spring or autumn in sun or light shade, in fertile, well-drained soil. Dig a hole about twice as wide as the root ball, set the plant at the same depth as in the pot and water well.
Care Water regularly in the first season, later only in long dry spells. Mulch the root zone with bark or leaf compost and in spring remove frost-damaged, old and crowded shoots.
Use Pond margins, companion to rhododendrons, shrub groups and late-summer scent.
