About this product
Smoke bush Cotinus coggygria Royal Purple is a large shrub with deep wine-purple leaves that turn bright red in autumn. In summer it is covered with airy, smoke-like flower plumes, which is why many gardeners buy a purple smoke bush as the main accent of a border.
It needs full sun and well-drained, not too wet soil. In Estonia plant it in a warm, sheltered spot; shoot tips may freeze in harsh winters but the shrub normally recovers in spring. Spring pruning keeps it compact. Large plant.

Advice from our agronomist
Planting Plant in spring or autumn in sun or light shade, in fertile, well-drained soil. Dig a hole about twice as wide as the root ball, set the plant at the same depth as in the pot and water well.
Care Water regularly in the first season, later only in long dry spells. Mulch the root zone with bark or leaf compost and in spring remove frost-damaged, old and crowded shoots.
Use Accent shrub for borders, a specimen plant, dark foliage backdrop and autumn colour.
