Cotoneaster dammeri (bearberry cotoneaster) is a prostrate evergreen shrub forming a dense mat of glossy green leaves. Small white flowers appear in spring, followed by bright red berries in autumn. Buy Cotoneaster dammeri in Estonia from the ALLIKASILM nursery.
It stays only 10–20 cm tall but spreads 1.5–2.5 m, rooting where the stems touch the ground. It flowers in May–June; the berries ripen in August–September and often last into winter.
Use it to stabilise slopes, in rock gardens, trailing over retaining walls and as ground cover under trees. Bees visit the flowers and birds eat the berries.

Agronoma ieteikumi
Planting. Plant from April to October; for ground cover allow 2–3 plants per m². Clear perennial weeds thoroughly before planting — they are hard to pull out of a dense mat later.
Watering and feeding. Water during droughts in the first summer; established plants are drought tolerant. Feed lightly in spring with a shrub fertiliser.
Care. In spring trim frost-damaged tips and branches that have spread too far. The mat can be cut back harder to rejuvenate it.
Gardener's tip. On slopes, peg stems down with soil or wire pins — they root quickly and hold the soil in place.
