Maiden pink

About this product
Maiden pink (Dianthus deltoides) is a native perennial of Estonian meadows that forms a low mat about 15–20 cm high. From June to August it is covered with numerous pink to red flowers.
It loves full sun and dry, poor, sandy soil. It is fully hardy and needs little care, but grows less well in rich, wet ground.
Use it in a rock garden, along border edges, on a dry bank or beside paths, as well as in a wildflower meadow. The low mats soften the edges of stones and paving and bring a touch of native meadow into the garden.

Advice from our agronomist
Pick a dry, sunny spot. Maiden pink suffers more from excess moisture than from drought. On heavy clay, add sand or grit to the planting hole.
Do not overfeed. In poor soil the mat stays dense and flowers freely, while too much food makes it loose and floppy. Water only after planting and in a very long dry spell.
Trim after flowering. Cut back the spent flower stems to keep the mat tidy and encourage fresh shoots. If you would like it to self-seed, leave some flowers to set seed.
