About this product
Bleeding heart "Valentine" is a striking variety of Lamprocapnos spectabilis with cherry-red hearts tipped white, holder of the RHS Award of Garden Merit. Buy bleeding heart in a 9 cm or 2 L pot in Estonia from the ALLIKASILM nursery.
Height and spread 60–75 cm. Flowers in May–June for about six weeks, the hearts dangling from arching plum-tinted stems. Young leaves are reddish, later grey-green and finely cut.
A perennial for part shade and shade – for shady borders, woodland corners and cutting. Fully hardy in Estonia (USDA 3–9). The foliage goes dormant by midsummer, so plant hostas or ferns next to it. All parts are poisonous if eaten.

Advice from our agronomist
Planting. Plant in spring or early autumn in part shade, in loose fertile soil rich in humus. Do not bury the crown deeply; water after planting.
Watering and feeding. Keep the soil evenly moist, especially in spring during growth and flowering. Feed with compost or a general flower fertiliser in spring.
Care. No pruning needed; cut off yellowed leaves after dormancy. Divide in early spring every 3–4 years. Wear gloves – the sap irritates skin.
Gardener's tip. Bleeding heart goes dormant early, so plant hostas, ferns or astilbes next to it to fill the gap until autumn. Grow in sun only if the soil stays constantly moist.
