Advice from our agronomist
Planting. Plant in spring or early autumn in part shade, in loose humus-rich soil, 30–40 cm apart. It copes with sun only where the soil stays moist.
Watering and feeding. Keep the soil evenly moist but never waterlogged – winter wet can rot the rosette. Add compost in spring; extra nitrogen is not needed.
Care. Cut off the faded central spike – side spikes often follow. Leave a couple of spikes to set seed so the foxgloves renew themselves.
Gardener's tip. Wear gloves when handling foxgloves: all parts of the plant are toxic and can irritate the skin.
