Advice from our agronomist
Planting. Plant flowering quince in spring or autumn in a sunny or part-shaded spot. For a hedge leave 60–80 cm between plants. Wear gloves: the stems are thorny.
Care. The shrub needs little care. Mulch the roots and remove weeds. Remove suckers if you do not want a dense thicket.
Watering and feeding. Water young plants in dry spells and feed in spring with a balanced fertiliser. Too much nitrogen reduces flowering.
Winter and pruning. Right after flowering cut out crowded and old stems. No winter cover is needed, though young plants can be mulched in their first winter.
