About this product

Echinacea purpurea "Bravado" is a large-flowered purple coneflower (Echinacea purpurea). Buy Echinacea "Bravado" in Estonia from the ALLIKASILM nursery.

It has large 10–12 cm flowers with rosy-purple petals held flat rather than drooping, around a coppery-orange cone. Height 90–120 cm, flowering July to September.

Suits the middle or back of a border, naturalistic gardens and cutting. Strong stems and big flowers make it a good plant for a pollinator-friendly garden.

Advice from our agronomist

Planting. Plant in full sun in well-drained soil. Pot-grown plants can go in from spring to autumn, about 40 cm apart. Set the plant at the same depth as in the pot and water thoroughly.

Watering and feeding. Water regularly for the first weeks after planting. Once established, coneflowers are drought tolerant and only need watering in long dry spells. A little compost or balanced fertiliser in spring is enough — too much nitrogen makes the stems weak.

Care. Deadheading prolongs flowering. In autumn leave some seed heads standing for birds and winter interest. Older clumps can be divided in spring.

Overwintering. Coneflowers are winter hardy in Estonia. Cut back the old stems in late autumn or early spring. Winter wet is more dangerous than frost, so good drainage matters.
