Seller: ALLIKASILM
About this product
Echinacea purpurea "Paradoxa" is a yellow coneflower — botanically the North American prairie species Echinacea paradoxa, traded under the name "Echinacea purpurea Paradoxa". Buy Echinacea "Paradoxa" in Estonia from the ALLIKASILM nursery.
Its special feature is the golden-yellow drooping ray petals, up to 7 cm long, around a brown cone — the only wild coneflower with yellow flowers. Height 50–100 cm, flowering from midsummer to early autumn.
Ideal for sunny borders, prairie-style plantings, among grasses and for cutting. The yellow flowers contrast beautifully with purple coneflowers and blue perennials.

Advice from our agronomist
Planting. Plant in full sun in well-drained soil. Pot-grown plants can go in from spring to autumn, about 40 cm apart. Set the plant at the same depth as in the pot and water thoroughly.
Watering and feeding. Water regularly for the first weeks after planting. Once established, coneflowers are drought tolerant and only need watering in long dry spells. A little compost or balanced fertiliser in spring is enough — too much nitrogen makes the stems weak.
Care. Deadheading prolongs flowering. In autumn leave some seed heads standing for birds and winter interest. Older clumps can be divided in spring.
Overwintering. Coneflowers are winter hardy in Estonia. Cut back the old stems in late autumn or early spring. Winter wet is more dangerous than frost, so good drainage matters.
