Blue fescue Festuca cinerea, 2 l pot
Seller: ALLIKASILM
About this product
Festuca cinerea (blue fescue) is a dense, blue-grey tufted grass with fine, needle-like leaves that keep their colour all year. Buy blue fescue in Estonia from the ALLIKASILM nursery.
The tuft grows about 20–30 cm tall; in June–July pale yellow panicles rise above it to 30–50 cm. The bluest colour develops in full sun on lean, dry soil.
Use it in rock gardens, on slopes, as edging, in gravel gardens and containers. Planted in groups it forms an even blue carpet that pairs well with silver and purple perennials.

Advice from our agronomist
Planting. Plant from May to September in a sunny spot 20–30 cm apart. On heavy clay add sand or fine grit to the planting hole.
Watering and feeding. Water only after planting and during long droughts. No feeding needed — rich soil makes the leaves greener and the tuft floppy.
Care. Comb out dead leaves in spring and cut off spent flower stems. Divide every 3–4 years in spring to keep the centre full.
Gardener's tip. Never let the tuft sit in water over winter — fescues die from wet, not from cold.
