Forsythia Forsythia × intermedia blooms in April–May before the leaves with bright yellow flowers, making it one of the best-loved spring shrubs. This compact cultivar suits smaller gardens. Buy a forsythia for early spring colour.
It prefers sun and well-drained soil. In hard Estonian winters flower buds may freeze, so plant it in a sheltered spot. Remove old stems right after flowering to encourage new blooms.

Planting Plant in spring or autumn in sun or light shade, in fertile, well-drained soil. Dig a hole about twice as wide as the root ball, set the plant at the same depth as in the pot and water well.
Care Water regularly in the first season, later only in long dry spells. Mulch the root zone with bark or leaf compost and in spring remove frost-damaged, old and crowded shoots.
Use Shrub groups, hedges, spring accent and containers.
