Mansikka Fragaria ananassa "Elsanta"
Myyjä: ALLIKASILM
Tietoa tuotteesta
Fragaria ananassa "Elsanta" is a Dutch-bred mid-season strawberry that for decades has been one of the most widely grown strawberries in Europe. It is valued for its large, glossy, firm berries and heavy crops. Buy "Elsanta" strawberry plants in Estonia from the ALLIKASILM nursery.
The berries are medium to large, orange-red and glossy, sweet and pleasantly aromatic. The flesh is firm, so they store and travel well and resist bruising. The crop ripens from mid-June to mid-July.
It is self-fertile and hardy (RHS H6). It prefers a sunny, sheltered spot and fertile, well-drained soil, and needs good care as it is susceptible to powdery mildew and root rots. Use the berries fresh, for jam and for freezing.

Agronomin neuvot
Planting. Plant in spring as soon as the soil can be worked, or in August – early September, in full sun. Space plants 30–40 cm apart with 60–80 cm between rows; keep the crown at soil level. Do not plant after potatoes or tomatoes (verticillium wilt risk).
Watering and feeding. During flowering and fruit swell water deeply once a week, at the roots rather than over the leaves. Feed in spring with a balanced fertiliser and after harvest with a high-potash berry feed.
Care. Mulch with straw or film to keep the berries clean and reduce grey mould. Remove surplus runners and, after harvest, the old leaves. Net the crop against birds. Renew the bed every 3–4 years.
Gardener's tip. Pinch off the flowers in the first summer – the plants root in better and the next year's crop is much bigger.
