Advice from our agronomist
Planting Plant in spring (late April – May) or late summer in a sunny spot in fertile, well-drained, slightly acid soil. Set the crown (growing point) level with the soil surface — neither buried nor raised. Space plants 30–40 cm apart, rows 60–70 cm.
Watering Water regularly, especially while rooting, flowering and ripening; water at the root to keep the berries and leaves dry. Mulching with straw or mulch fabric keeps the berries clean.
Pruning After harvest remove old and diseased leaves and surplus runners unless you want to propagate.
Feeding and winter care Feed in spring at the start of growth and after harvest with a balanced fertiliser or compost; avoid excess nitrogen. Overwinters well; before hard frosts cover the plants with spruce branches, straw or fleece. Renew the planting every 3–4 years.
