Alpine strawberry (Fragaria vesca) "Rügen", 9 cm pot
Seller: ALLIKASILM
About this product
Alpine strawberry (Fragaria vesca) "Rügen" is an old German everbearing variety that produces no runners and gives fragrant berries from early summer until the autumn frosts. Buy "Rügen" alpine strawberry plants in a 9 cm pot in Estonia from the ALLIKASILM nursery.
Compact clumps reach 15–30 cm tall and up to 40 cm wide. White flowers with a yellow eye open in flushes, and the small, elongated, bright red berries with a strong wild-strawberry aroma ripen from June to September – October.
As it does not form runners, it is ideal for edging beds and paths, containers, balcony boxes and planting under fruit trees. Hardy (to −29 °C, USDA zone 5) and overwinters well in Estonia.

Advice from our agronomist
Planting. Plant from spring to early autumn in sun or light shade, 25–30 cm apart, keeping the crown at soil level. Add compost before planting.
Watering and feeding. Water regularly, especially while fruiting and in containers. Feed with a berry fertiliser in spring and after the first flush of fruit.
Care. Mulch with straw or bark to keep the berries clean. Remove old leaves in spring. Every 3–4 years rejuvenate the planting by dividing the clumps, as this variety has no runners.
Gardener's tip. Plant "Rügen" along a path near the house: you can pick fragrant berries all summer, and the neat clumps will not spread around the garden.
