Advice from our agronomist
Planting. Plant in spring after the last frost in a sunny spot with well-drained soil, 50–60 cm apart. The taproot dislikes transplanting, so choose the site carefully.
Care. Remove faded flower stems to prolong blooming. In midsummer you can cut the plant back by a quarter to encourage rebloom.
Watering and feeding. Water young plants in the first year; later it tolerates drought. Excess fertiliser causes flopping, compost in spring is enough.
Winter. Protect the crown with dry leaves or conifer branches and leave stems uncut until spring. Wet winter soil is more dangerous than cold.
