Gaura lindheimeri, P9 pot

About this product
Gaura lindheimeri (syn. Oenothera lindheimeri) is a light, airy perennial with long branching flower stems carrying butterfly-like white flowers that fade to pink.
The plant reaches 60–120 cm in height, blooms for a long time from June until frost, loves sun and dry spells, and suits beds, mixed borders, gravel gardens and containers. Buy gaura in Estonia at ALLIKASILM; it is supplied in a P9 (9 cm) pot.
Gaura is drought tolerant and undemanding, but in Estonia it overwinters only with protection (USDA zone 5–6) and can be short-lived, so plant it in well-drained soil.

Advice from our agronomist
Planting. Plant in spring after the last frosts in a sunny spot with well-drained soil; on heavy clay add sand. Space plants 40–60 cm apart with the root collar at soil level.
Care. Gaura forms a taproot and dislikes transplanting. For abundant flowering remove faded shoots; in mid-summer cut the plant back by a third if needed.
Watering and feeding. Water moderately, only in drought; waterlogging is harmful. Feed lightly because too much nitrogen makes shoots leggy; spring compost or a flowering-plant fertiliser is enough.
Winter care. Do not cut the top growth in autumn but leave it over winter; mulch the soil with bark or leaves and cover with spruce branches. Gaura starts growing late, in May.
