About this product

Onion “Globo” (Allium cepa) is a late, sweet variety with very large yellow bulbs. They weigh 360–600 g and can reach 800 g in good conditions. Enjoy them fresh or preserved, as they do not store for long.

It takes 170–175 days from sowing to harvest, so the onion is raised from transplants: sow indoors in March–April and plant out at 40 × 15 cm. Lift the crop in August–September, before frost. It prefers free-draining, humus-rich loam or sandy loam.

The pack contains 1 g of seed (about 250–450 seeds), made by Žalia stotelė.

Advice from our agronomist

Start early. Because of the long season, sow in March in trays or modules about 1 cm deep. If the seedlings grow taller than 10–12 cm, trim the leaves to keep them sturdy.

Plant out in late April or May. Harden the plants off outdoors for a week first. Leave 40 cm between rows and 15 cm between plants, and do not set them too deep.

Lift before the cold. Stop nitrogen feeding in the second half of summer and water moderately. When the leaves start to fall over, lift the bulbs and dry them somewhere warm.
