About this product
Purple passion plant (Gynura aurantiaca “Purple Passion”) is a houseplant whose leaves are covered in dense purple hairs that give them a velvety sheen. Its stems trail, so it looks superb in a hanging pot.
The colour is richest in bright, indirect light. Water moderately and avoid wetting the leaves. Pinch out the shoot tips to keep the plant bushy. The flowers have an unpleasant smell, so it is best to remove the buds.
Grow it in a hanging pot near a window, on a shelf or on a tall stand where the stems can cascade freely. The purple foliage makes a lively contrast with green houseplants.

Advice from our agronomist
Give light, not direct sun. A bright window without midday sun keeps the leaves purple, while in shade they turn greenish. On a south-facing sill, filter the light with a sheer curtain.
Water from below or onto the soil. The hairy leaves dislike water, so pour it straight onto the compost or into the saucer. Let the top layer dry slightly between waterings.
Pinch and renew. Shorten long shoots regularly so that the plant branches well. The pinched tips root easily in water or compost, giving you a fresh plant to replace an ageing one.
