Pink "Rose Quartz", 10 seeds, Baltic Agro
Seller: ALLIKASILM
About this product
Cheddar pink "Rose Quartz" (Dianthus gratianopolitanus) — a low perennial forming a dense grey-green cushion. The flowers are pale pink with a deeper pink ring and smell sweet — the scent is why this pink gets planted at the edge of a bed.
Height 30 cm. The cushion keeps its shape after flowering, so the spot never looks empty: in winter the grey mound is an ornament in its own right. Suits rockeries, bed edges, slopes and the crevices of a retaining wall.
Bred with FastraX technology, it flowers in its first year rather than the second, as most perennial pinks do. Packet of 10 seeds. Producer Baltic Agro, Estonia.

Advice from our agronomist
Soil first. Pinks want sun and sharply drained soil. On heavy clay grow them in a raised bed or add sand and fine grit to the planting hole — wet soil kills them more surely than cold.
Planting depth. Do not plant deep: the crown must sit above soil level or it rots. Dress around the plant with fine grit rather than soil.
Shearing. Shearing after flowering keeps the cushion dense and often brings a second, lighter flush in August.
Feeding. Lightly in spring. Rich soil gives lush leaves and few flowers — a pink is easier to overfeed than to starve.
Winter. Wet is more dangerous than cold. In a snowless winter cover with spruce branches, but not with plastic: under plastic the cushion rots.
