Advice from our agronomist
Planting. Plant hazel in spring or autumn in a sunny or part-shaded place with fertile soil. Space plants 3–4 m apart and place the pollinator within 10 m.
Care. Remove suckers from the base so the plant does not become congested. Mulch the roots with leaf mould or bark.
Watering and feeding. Water young plants in dry weather and feed in spring with organic or balanced fertiliser. Nuts need adequate moisture while filling.
Winter and pruning. Prune in February–March after pollen shed, removing old and crowding stems. No winter cover is needed.
