Tietoa tuotteesta
Heliotrope (Heliotropium arborescens, cherry pie plant) is a fragrant summer flower whose deep purple flower heads give off a vanilla scent. The plant in the photo has rich violet flower heads; the cultivar is a "mix" and the exact name is not specified.
It suits containers, hanging baskets, balcony boxes and border edges in a sunny spot. It blooms from early summer until frost and attracts butterflies and bees.
In Estonia heliotrope is grown as an annual: it is frost tender and is planted out after the last spring frosts. Buy Heliotropium at the Allikasilm garden centre.

Planting. Plant out after the last frosts (usually early June) in a sunny, sheltered spot. Space 30–40 cm apart, or one plant per 3–5 litre container.
Care. Deadhead faded flower heads for more abundant blooming. Pinch the tips of young plants for a bushier habit.
Watering and feeding. Water regularly so the soil never dries out completely, but avoid waterlogging. In summer apply flowering-plant fertiliser every 2 weeks.
Winter. Heliotrope does not overwinter outdoors in Estonia. If you wish, bring it into a bright cool room (10–15 °C) before frost, water sparingly and plant out again in spring; otherwise grow it anew each year.
