Coral bells (Heuchera) are foliage perennials with leaves in lime, red, purple, silver or almost black. Buy them in Estonia from the ALLIKASILM nursery in assorted varieties; the exact variety is confirmed at purchase.
In late spring and summer (May–July) slender stems with tiny bell-shaped flowers rise above the leaves and attract bees.
Plants form a compact mound 25–40 cm tall, thrive in partial shade and are generally hardy (USDA zone 4).

Agronomo patarimai
Planting. Plant in partial shade in humus-rich, well-drained soil, 30–40 cm apart, with the crown at soil level.
Watering and feeding. Keep the soil evenly moist, especially in the first summer and in containers. In spring give a little compost or slow-release fertiliser.
Care. In spring remove dead leaves and old flower stems. After a few years the crown lifts out of the soil – add mulch or replant deeper, and divide if needed.
Gardener's tip. In late autumn cover the plant lightly with conifer branches or leaves to protect the evergreen foliage from winter sun and snowless frost.
