Planting. Plant in sun or partial shade in humus-rich, well-drained soil with the crown at soil level.
Watering and feeding. Water evenly, especially in drought, but avoid standing water. Give a little perennial fertiliser or compost in spring.
Care. Deadheading prolongs flowering. Every 3–4 years, when the crown lifts out of the soil, divide and replant deeper.
Winter. Overwinters outdoors; light cover in spring prevents frost heave.
