Planting. Pick a sunny or partly shaded site and dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball, adding peat and compost. Keep the root collar at soil level, water well and mulch.
Care. Remove frost-damaged and weak shoots in spring; keep the soil lightly moist and loose and renew the mulch every year.
Watering and feeding. Hydrangeas like moisture: water regularly at the roots in hot weather. Apply a hydrangea fertiliser in spring and repeat in June.
Winter care and pruning. In spring, before bud break, cut stems back to 2–3 pairs of buds. Mulch young plants with peat or conifer litter for winter.
