Hydrangea arborescens "Hayes Starburst", also known as Double Annabelle, is a rare smooth hydrangea with double flowers. It was found in Alabama as a sport of the famous 'Annabelle'. Buy hydrangea "Hayes Starburst" in Estonia from the ALLIKASILM nursery.
The domed heads, up to 20 cm across, are made of many double, star-shaped florets in white to pale lime green. It flowers from June to September on new wood. The shrub is compact, 0.6–1.3 m tall and 0.5–1.2 m wide, with dark green leaves.
The variety is very hardy (about -30 to -34 °C, USDA 3–4) and flowers even after a severe winter, as the buds form in the same season. Use it in borders, groups and for cutting.

Agronoma ieteikumi
Planting. Plant in sun or partial shade, sheltered from wind. Dig a hole twice the size of the pot and add compost; plant at the same depth it grew in the pot. Space plants about 1 m apart.
Watering and feeding. Keep the soil evenly moist – water generously in dry spells; mulch helps hold moisture. Feed in spring and early summer with a hydrangea or balanced fertiliser, stopping nitrogen from August.
Care. In early spring cut stems back to 20–40 cm – this variety flowers on new wood. Remove weak and frost-damaged branches.
Gardener's tip. The double heads are heavy: for sturdier stems prune a little higher in spring (about 40 cm) and add a ring support if needed. Dried heads stay decorative in winter.
