Advice from our agronomist
Planting. Choose a sunny or lightly shaded spot with fertile, evenly moist, well-drained soil. Plant at the same depth as in the pot, mulch and water thoroughly.
Care. Water in dry spells and keep the root zone mulched. Panicle hydrangea flowers on new growth, so prune in early spring, shortening last year's shoots by a third to a half. Feed in spring with a shrub fertiliser.
Winter. Mulch the root zone of young plants for their first winter.
Standard form. Keep a stake beside the stem and shape the crown by pruning each spring.
