Advice from our agronomist
Planting. Pick a sunny or partly shaded site and dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball, adding peat and compost. Keep the root collar at soil level, water well and mulch.
Care. Remove frost-damaged and weak shoots in spring; keep the soil lightly moist and loose and renew the mulch every year.
Watering and feeding. Hydrangeas like moisture: water regularly at the roots in hot weather. Apply a hydrangea fertiliser in spring and repeat in June.
Winter care and pruning. In spring, before bud break, shorten the stems by a third to a half. Mulch young plants with peat or conifer litter for winter.
