Agronoma ieteikumi
Planting. Plant from spring to early autumn in a sunny spot. Hypericum dislikes standing water – on heavy soil add sand or gravel to the planting hole. Space plants 30–50 cm apart.
Watering and feeding. Water after planting and during long dry spells; once established the plant usually needs no watering. Little feeding is needed – a thin layer of compost in spring is enough.
Care. Cut back flowered stems after flowering or in early spring to keep the clump dense and limit self-seeding. On shrubby species, remove frost-damaged shoots in spring.
Gardener's tip. If you want to harvest St John's wort for tea, cut the tops of the flowering stems at full bloom on a dry, sunny day and dry them in the shade.
