Advice from our agronomist
Planting Plant in July–September in a sunny, well-drained spot; set the rhizome on the soil surface with its top left visible. Space 30–40 cm.
Watering Water moderately; in dry spells less often but thoroughly; a wet site makes the rhizome rot.
Pruning Remove spent flower stalks and dead leaves; divide congested clumps every 3–4 years after flowering.
Feeding and winter care Feed in spring with bonemeal or a low-nitrogen fertiliser; avoid excess nitrogen. Hardy; mulch lightly the first winter.
