About this product
Cora Louise is an Itoh peony, a cross between a tree peony and a herbaceous peony: from the first it takes the flower size, from the second the hardiness and strong stems.
The flowers are large, semi-double and pure white, with a lavender-purple flare in the centre and golden stamens. The bloom period is exceptionally long, which is the best-known trait of this variety and the reason RHS has given it the AGM. The shrub grows 0.5–1 m tall and as wide. The stems hold the flowers up themselves: Itoh peonies do not flop in the rain like herbaceous ones. Hardy in Estonia without cover.

Advice from our agronomist
Plant the eyes 4–5 cm below soil level. This is the single most important figure for a peony. Planted deeper, it produces foliage and no flowers — for years. Set a container plant at exactly the depth it grew in the pot.
Do not mulch over the crown. A mulch layer acts as extra planting depth and gives the same result as planting too deep. Mulch around the plant, not over it.
At least 6 hours of sun. In shade a peony grows but does not flower. Remember that tree shade increases over the years.
Go easy on nitrogen. Rich feeding gives lush foliage and no blooms. Peonies want phosphorus and potassium.
Cut the foliage only after it browns. Green leaves are still feeding the root for next year's flowers. On an Itoh peony leave a few centimetres of stem — some woody shoots may set buds next season.
Do not expect full flowering in the first year. A peony reaches full strength over several seasons.
