Juniperus procumbens "Nana" (dwarf Japanese garden juniper) is a low, spreading evergreen ground-cover conifer only 20–30 cm tall but 1.5–2 m wide. It is one of the best junipers for rock gardens and slopes.
The needles are blue-green, sharp and dense; the branches spread horizontally and form a carpet. The plant is drought tolerant, hardy and undemanding.
Use it in rock gardens, for stabilising slopes, on green roofs and in containers. Planted closely it suppresses weeds well.

Agronoma ieteikumi
Planting. Plant in April–May or in September while the soil is warm. Dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball, add sand or grit, with some compost if needed; keep the root collar level with the ground. Space plants 1–1.5 m. Site: full sun.
Care. In the first two years never let the soil dry out; a 5–7 cm layer of bark mulch keeps moisture in and suppresses weeds. Hoe gently because the roots are shallow.
Watering and feeding. In dry weather water once a week (10–15 litres per plant). Feed in spring with a conifer fertiliser containing magnesium and stop feeding after July.
Winter care and pruning. Fully hardy and needs no cover. Heavy snow may press the branches down but they recover. No pruning is needed; in spring remove only dead or overlong branches.
