Savin juniper "Erecta"

About this product
Savin juniper "Erecta" — an upright, dense form of Juniperus sabina with dark green foliage; unlike the creeping species it grows as a shrub with ascending branches.
The foliage is needle-like on young shoots and scale-like on mature ones, with bluish-grey cones ripening on the shrub. It tolerates dry, limy and urban soils and reaches about 1.5–2 m (per catalogues).
It suits sunny groups, slopes, rock gardens and conifer plantings. Note: all parts of the plant are poisonous and the species is an alternate host of pear rust, so do not plant it near pear trees.

Advice from our agronomist
Planting. Plant from April to May or in September in full sun. Soil: well-drained; dry and limy soil is tolerated. Dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball, keep the root collar level with the ground, water thoroughly and mulch with 5 cm of bark.
Care. Care is minimal: remove dead twigs and shape lightly in spring. Wear gloves because the sap irritates skin and the plant is poisonous.
Watering and feeding. Water regularly in the first year; established plants are drought tolerant and need water only in long dry spells. Feed with a conifer fertiliser in spring and early summer; avoid nitrogen from August.
Winter care and pruning. Hardy, no special cover needed; shake off heavy snow. Trim only young growth and never cut into old wood.
