Flaky juniper Juniperus squamata "Blue Carpet" is a prostrate, creeping juniper with steel-blue, almost silvery foliage. The needles are short and sharp and keep their colour in winter.
The plant is only 20-30 cm tall but spreads 1.5-2.5 m wide. It suits rock gardens, slope stabilisation, ground cover and roof gardens.
"Blue Carpet" is fully hardy (USDA 4), drought tolerant and undemanding. The colour is strongest in full sun.

Agronomo patarimai
Planting. Plant in spring in full sun on well-drained ground. For a continuous carpet, space plants 1-1.5 m apart.
Care. Tolerates poor, sandy soil but not waterlogging. Keep weeds down around young plants and mulch with gravel.
Watering and feeding. Water regularly in the first year; later rainfall is usually enough. Feed very little, a light dose of conifer fertiliser in spring.
Winter care and pruning. Hardy and needs no winter cover. No pruning is needed; shorten overlong shoots in spring if desired.
