Advice from our agronomist
Use. Birch firewood suits fireplaces, stoves, saunas and barbecues; dry logs burn evenly, give plenty of heat and little smoke. Stack the logs so that air can pass between them.
Preparation. Light with kindling or birch bark rather than liquid fire starters. A 20–25 L pack is about one or two fireplace loads.
Safety. Use only in sound stoves and fireplaces with a guard and a chimney; keep an extinguisher or sand nearby and never leave a fire unattended.
Storage. Keep in a dry, ventilated place under cover, not on bare ground; damp wood burns poorly and produces more soot.
