Use. Remove the old handle from the spade socket, clean the socket and fix the new handle firmly (with a nail or screw if needed). Check the joint before starting work.
Choosing. Choose the handle by socket diameter; a 130 cm length suits your height when it reaches roughly hip level. The grip improves hold.
Care. Keep the handle dry and clean; wood swells in damp and dries out in heat. If you like, treat it with linseed oil to prevent cracking.
Storage. Store tools in a dry place, hung up or upright, not on damp ground.
