Advice from our agronomist
Planting. Plant out from spring to autumn in sun or partial shade in well-drained soil so that the bulb sits about 10–15 cm deep, 20–30 cm apart.
Watering and feeding. Water moderately and avoid standing water. Feed in spring and before flowering with a potassium-rich fertiliser.
Care. Stake taller varieties. Remove faded flowers but leave stem and leaves until autumn to feed the bulb. Watch for lily beetles.
Winter. Overwinters in the ground; in colder spots mulch or cover with conifer branches in late autumn.
