Big blue lilyturf (Liriope muscari) is an evergreen perennial from East Asia with narrow, glossy, grass-like leaves and violet flower spikes resembling grape hyacinths. Buy Liriope muscari in a 10 cm pot in Estonia from the ALLIKASILM nursery.
Height 30–45 cm, spread 30–45 cm. Flowers in August – October, when most perennials are over; black berries may follow. Slowly spreads into a dense clump.
Suited to shady and part-shady spots, edging, ground cover under trees and containers. Moderately hardy (RHS H5, to −15 °C) – in Estonia give it a mulch and winter cover, or overwinter the pot in a cool room.

Agronoma ieteikumi
Planting. Plant in spring in part shade or shade, in loose humus-rich soil that never stays waterlogged, 30–40 cm apart. It also does well in large containers.
Watering and feeding. Water regularly until established, then moderately – it tolerates short dry spells. Mulch with compost in spring.
Care. In early spring cut old, damaged leaves off at the base so the new foliage comes through neatly. Divide large clumps in spring.
Gardener's tip. In Estonia lilyturf overwinters more reliably under a thick layer of mulch and spruce branches, or in its pot in a cool, bright room (0–5 °C).
