About this product

Sweet pepper "Granova" (Capsicum annuum) — a cultivar of sweet pepper (Capsicum annuum), a warmth-loving vegetable whose fruits start greenish-yellow and ripen to red.

Sweet pepper "Granova" suits both greenhouse growing and a sheltered open-ground site; the plant reaches roughly 60–80 cm and needs warmth and even watering for a good crop. Seedlings are sold in pots, so you can plant out as soon as the frosts are over.

The fruits suit fresh salads, frying, stuffing, preserving and freezing. Grow it near basil, onions and dill, and away from potatoes.

Advice from our agronomist

Planting. Plant out after the last frost (late May–early June) into soil warmer than 15 °C, in a sunny, wind-sheltered spot. Space plants 40–50 cm apart in rows 50–60 cm apart; plant at the same depth as in the pot and water well with warm water.

Care. Peppers like loose, fertile soil with a pH of 6–7. Mulch with straw or compost, tie to a stake if needed and remove leaves below the first fork.

Watering and feeding. Water at the roots with warm water once or twice a week, avoiding both drying out and waterlogging. Feed with a vegetable fertiliser every two weeks and switch to a potassium-rich feed once fruit sets.

Harvest and end of season. Pick fruits at technical ripeness (greenish-yellow) or full ripeness (red) about 70–90 days after planting out. Pepper is grown as an annual: remove plants after frost and enrich the bed with compost.
