Tietoa tuotteesta
'Kallika' is an Estonian autumn apple bred by Kalju Kask at the Polli Horticultural Research Centre and registered in 2011. It is known for large, beautiful, sweet fruit. Buy a 'Kallika' apple tree in Estonia from the ALLIKASILM nursery.
The fruit is large, 150–200 g or more, regularly conical, ripening yellow with a bright red to pinkish-red blush. The whitish flesh is firm, sweet with a pleasant varietal aroma, and studies show high sugar and vitamin C content. It ripens in mid-September and in good storage keeps until mid-winter.
The tree has medium to strong vigour, starts bearing fairly early and crops well. 'Kallika' is resistant to scab, so it suits organic growing. Use it fresh, for juice and for baking.

Planting. Plant in spring or autumn (until the end of September) in a sunny spot sheltered from wind, where cold air and water do not collect. Dig a hole 60–80 cm wide and 50–60 cm deep and mix in compost. Keep the graft union 3–5 cm above soil level and tie the tree to a stake. It needs no anti-scab sprays, so it is a good choice for an organic home garden.
Watering and feeding. In the first summer water deeply once a week in dry spells (10–20 l per tree). In spring give a nitrogen fruit-tree fertiliser or compost; in the second half of summer use only potassium and phosphorus so the shoots ripen before winter. Keep the root zone weed-free and mulched.
Care. Do formative pruning in early spring before bud break: remove dead, crossing and inward-growing branches. Its branch angles are good, so the crown is easy to train. In autumn protect the trunk from rodents with a guard and whitewash it.
Gardener's tip. Do not leave the apples on the tree too long – with late harvest wasps can bore large holes in the fruit. Pick in mid-September and store in a cool cellar.
