Tietoa tuotteesta
'Karksi Renett' is an old Estonian winter apple whose mother tree grew at Remsi farm in Karksi parish, Viljandi County. Propagation began in the 1930s and widened after 1970. Buy a 'Karksi Renett' apple tree in Estonia from the ALLIKASILM nursery.
The fruit is medium to large, broad-round and greenish-yellow, with little or no blush on the sunny side. The greenish-white flesh is firm, juicy and sweet-sharp and does not turn mealy. The apples are eaten from December to March–April.
The tree is vigorous with a dense, rounded crown and starts bearing late. Winter hardiness is good. The fruit is only slightly affected by scab, although the leaves are more susceptible. A classic Estonian winter apple for storing.

Planting. Plant in spring or autumn (until the end of September) in a sunny spot sheltered from wind, where cold air and water do not collect. Dig a hole 60–80 cm wide and 50–60 cm deep and mix in compost. Keep the graft union 3–5 cm above soil level and tie the tree to a stake. As the tree is vigorous, leave at least 5 m to neighbouring trees.
Watering and feeding. In the first summer water deeply once a week in dry spells (10–20 l per tree). In spring give a nitrogen fruit-tree fertiliser or compost; in the second half of summer use only potassium and phosphorus so the shoots ripen before winter. Keep the root zone weed-free and mulched.
Care. Do formative pruning in early spring before bud break: remove dead, crossing and inward-growing branches. Thin the dense crown every spring – an airy crown dries faster after rain and the leaves suffer less from scab. Rake up and remove fallen leaves in autumn. In autumn protect the trunk from rodents with a guard and whitewash it.
Gardener's tip. It bears mainly on short fruiting spurs and starts cropping later – do not cut these short spurs away.
