"Liivi kuldrenett" (Livonian Golden Reinette) is an old Baltic apple variety known since the late 19th century in the former Livonia province; in Latvia it is called "Vidzemes Zelta Renete". It is valued for its bright yellow apples of excellent flavour. Buy a "Liivi kuldrenett" apple tree in Estonia from the ALLIKASILM nursery.
The fruit is medium-sized (about 125 g on average), bright yellow, sweet-sharp and aromatic. It is an autumn apple. It has been used in breeding – the Kazakh varieties "Rubin" and "Saltanat" descend from it.
Being of local origin, "Liivi kuldrenett" is adapted to our climate and is kept in the variety collection of the Polli Horticultural Research Centre. Use it fresh, for juice and preserves. The small tree is a good choice for a heritage orchard.

Agronoma ieteikumi
Planting. Plant in spring or autumn (until the end of September) in a sunny spot sheltered from wind, where cold air and water do not collect. Dig a hole 60 × 50 cm and add compost. Keep the graft union 3–5 cm above soil level and stake the tree.
Watering and feeding. In the first summer water deeply once a week in dry spells (10–20 l). Give a fruit-tree fertiliser or compost in spring and only potassium and phosphorus in the second half of summer. Keep the root zone weed-free and mulched.
Care. Do formative pruning in early spring before bud break: remove dead, crossing and inward-growing branches. In autumn protect the trunk from rodents with a guard and whitewash it.
Gardener's tip. Apples need a pollinator – plant another variety that flowers at the same time nearby. Old local varieties are worth keeping: they are part of our garden heritage.
