The apple tree "Riia roos" (Malus domestica ‘Rīgas Rožābele’) is an apple variety of Latvian origin. The apples are medium-sized, greenish-yellow with a red blush, very juicy and aromatic.
The variety is self-fertile and undemanding, which suits both beginners and experienced gardeners. The tree is decorative through the whole season and fits an orchard as well as a feature spot in a home garden.

Advice from our agronomist
Planting. Plant the apple tree in spring or autumn in a sunny, sheltered spot with well-drained, humus-rich soil. Dig a hole 80 cm wide and 60 cm deep, add compost and plant so the graft union stays 5–10 cm above soil level.
Care. Tie the tree to a stake and make a watering ring around it. Keep the area around the tree weed-free and mulch the base, leaving a little free space right next to the trunk.
Watering and feeding. Water the young tree regularly during the first years, especially in dry weather, about 20–30 L at a time. Feed with a nitrogen fertiliser in spring and a potassium-rich one in summer; give a bearing tree compost in autumn.
Pruning and overwintering. Prune the crown in late winter or early spring before bud break, keeping it airy. Protect the trunk of a young tree from rodents in winter and whitewash the trunk with lime in autumn.
