Advice from our agronomist
When to sow. Sow seeds from late April to early May 1–2 cm deep into individual pots (1–2 seeds per pot); seedlings need 24–26 °C. For direct sowing outdoors, sow in late May – early June, once the soil has warmed to at least 15 °C.
Planting. Plant seedlings with 2–3 true leaves in a greenhouse in mid-May and outdoors in early June after the last frost, spaced 50 × 30 cm. Cucumber roots are easily damaged, so transplant carefully with the root ball.
Care. Train the vines onto a net or trellis so the fruits grow straight and clean. Water with warm water (at least 20 °C) at the roots, regularly and without waterlogging; mulch the soil.
Feeding and harvest. Feed every 10–14 days with a complete fertiliser. Pick cucumbers every 1–2 days – the more often you pick, the more new fruits form.
