Advice from our agronomist
Planting Plant in spring (May) in a sunny spot in fertile, moisture-retentive but well-drained soil. Space plants 80–100 cm apart.
Watering Water regularly in the first year, later in dry spells; mulch keeps moisture in.
Pruning Cut the dry foliage back to 10–15 cm in March, before new shoots start to grow.
Feeding and winter care Feed in spring with compost or a slow-release fertiliser; stop feeding by the end of July. Cover a young plant with mulch in its first winter and tie the leaves into a bundle; old foliage protects the crown, so cut it only in spring.
