Advice from our agronomist
Planting Plant in spring in a sunny, sheltered spot in fertile, well-drained soil. Space trees 4–6 m apart.
Watering Water in dry spells in the first years; later the tree tolerates drought.
Pruning Shape the crown in late winter before the sap rises; remove frost-damaged and crossing branches.
Feeding and winter care Feed in spring with compost. Protect young plants in the first winters with mulch and fleece; in a hard winter the shoot tips may freeze but the plant recovers. A young plant needs winter protection; a mature tree is fairly hardy.
