Kohlrabi "Superschmelz" seeds, Nojaus 2 g

Planting. Sow in March–April, 1–2 cm deep, germinate at 18–20 °C and grow the seedlings on somewhere cool and bright. Plant out hardened seedlings from late April to June, 50 × 35 cm apart, in fertile soil – this large variety needs room.

Watering and feeding. Water evenly all summer: swings between dry and wet make the bulbs split. Dig in compost before planting and feed 2–3 times with a potassium- and nitrogen-rich vegetable fertiliser.

Care. Keep the soil loose, weed regularly and do not earth up the bulb. Protect young plants from flea beetle and cabbage root fly with fleece.

Gardener's tip. Bulbs of 15–20 cm across taste best; bigger ones are still edible but take longer to grow. Harvested kohlrabi with the leaves removed keeps for several months in a cellar.
