Pachysandra terminalis "Variegata" is an evergreen, shade-loving groundcover with diamond-shaped leaves edged in creamy white. It brightens dark corners under trees and shrubs. Buy Pachysandra "Variegata" in a 9 cm pot in Estonia from the ALLIKASILM nursery.
It stays low – about 20 cm – and spreads by underground runners into a dense carpet. The leaves are up to 5 cm long. In early summer it bears small white flowers in short spikes.
The variegated form grows more slowly than the green species. Hardiness is good (RHS H5); in Estonia it overwinters best under snow in a shady spot where spring sun cannot scorch the leaves.

Agronomo patarimai
Planting. Plant in spring or early autumn in shade or part shade, 6–9 plants per square metre. Add leaf mould or compost to the planting hole; in chalky or dry soil the leaves turn yellow.
Watering and feeding. Keep the soil evenly moist in the first year. Feed with compost or a slow-release fertiliser in spring. A mulch of leaf litter or bark keeps moisture in and helps the plants knit together faster.
Care. No pruning is needed. In spring remove winter-damaged leaves and old stems. Without snow, cover young plants with spruce branches for winter.
Gardener's tip. The variegated leaves stand out next to dark conifers and hostas. Planting in a staggered grid closes the carpet faster than planting in rows.
